1. Sit down with a piece of paper or on your computer. Write down or draw a picture of how you would like you desk and surrounding area to look. Visualize the space. What do you want to be able to do with an organized desk? Why do you want to get organized? How would it make you feel to be able to use your desk and find what you want when you want it? Knowing why you are organizing and how it would make you feel, will motivate you to change things to that life at your desk will be easier.
2. Set aside some time to organize your desk. What ever you come up with, double or triple it. Split up the time between several days. This takes much of the pressure off, especially for perfectionists. It is normal to underestimate the amount of time it will take, even for Organizers. Again, this is just an estimated amount of time. Yes, setting a goal will motivate you to accomplish this task. However, if you need more time, it is okay to take more time. Being flexible is just as important as setting your goal.
3. Setup boxes with Printed Labels on them. Don't use bags. The sorting containers need to have big easy access openings. This way, you can see what your putting in and you aren't fumbling to keep the bags open. Make it as easy as possible for yourself.

You can divide the items into categories such as Living Room, Family Room, Garage, Closet, etc.
